Motutapu Island - as a destination and as a cause - was increasingly vying for attention and relevance. As a charitable trust that depends on the generosity of the community and an army of planting volunteers and fundraisers to kept the island thriving.
Facilitated workshops with key Trust members ensured brand architecture, clear messaging and core language all aligned to create connections for both local and international visitors.
The logo marque needed to evoke this ancient landform, its geology and geography, from cultural and historical past of early Maori settlement to farming, maritime playground and World War 2 defensive position.
This project has been very special to me and I was lucky enough to lead the redesign almost entirely on my own, and then also be awarded a bronze Best Award for it. As the lead creative I designed all touchpoints for the brand from creating the logo mark, to crafting a large handmade flag that has been gifted to the island. My relationship with the trustees and volunteers has continued for sometime now and we have been to build further meaning for the brand and breath new life into this ancient landform.

- Small Brand Identity
The ASB Community Trust name change to Foundation North required the need for a rebrand that offered a new take on the old identity. Elements of their original green stone spiral were taken through to a more robust and modern circular design with customised versions that resolved the multiple applications required of it.
The layered Koru inspired shape enabled further storytelling as a graphic device into which images could be placed. This reflects the brand idea - ‘behind every grant there is a story’.
Foundation North is a client that I have worked very closely with over several years. A large body of branded collateral has allowed me to produce a significant body of work from photographic artworks, annual reports, brochure designs, and various signage/event branding.
Design Specifics: Logo and identity design, stationary, brochure design, annual report design, photographic artworks, infographics, website design.
Gift-giving is always a tricky thing, no matter what the occasion. In a world that is increasingly going digital, the question gets even more challenging. Prezzy Card has been an option for Kiwi's that makes this dilemma super simple. A minimal fuss, pre-loaded card which is aligned with major credit cards and can be used anywhere to purchase what they want. While the brand was well known, it needed to re-engage the consumer to ensure that it was top-of-mind and seen as the 'smart' gifting choice rather than being the lazy option.
We approached the challenge by shifting all the consumer touchpoints from mass-retail and loud, to smart, savvy and emotional. As Prezzy was an established brand, we refreshed all the main branded elements rather than starting from scratch. The brand logo, colour palette and typography were all re-engineered while introducing a new wallpaper collage to express the ‘One gift card, tens of millions of places to use it’ positioning. For the launch, we created a library of fun, people-focused images and strap-lines for use in advertising and digital channels that expressed the personalised nature of the brand in a friendly manner - a gift that allowed everybody to get what they really want.
Design Specifics: Logo evolution and identity design, full campaign rollout, corporate communication, art direction.
Jacobsen came to us with a vision. To leverage their 60 years of commercial flooring experience to shift into the residential space. We said we can help with that.
Jacobsen understood that it’s about more than just a floor. The soul of a space, a floor carries stories, weathers life, supports and connects. More than just a floor, it’s a play-mat, a workspace, a dance-floor. More than just a design element, it’s the backdrop of a scene, and the foundation of a home. Made for living, working and playing, a floor is the place where life happens. And it has to be right, just right for you.
Refining their visual language to speak of modernity, curation and inspiration we championed their design and performance to help fulfil the ambitions and dreams of kiwi’s.
Design Specifics: Logo and identity design with full brand rollout including - Signage, brochure design, stationary, website design, product displays.
Our Thai based client came to us with the name RU COCO and a clear vision about wanting to spread love, energy and positivity. They are bursting with pride about their coconuts and the communities from where they grow and want to showcase this to the world.
The alternative milk category has gained traction and matured. There is now a large, demanding consumer group looking at these products to supplement their healthy lifestyles. RU Coco needs to stand out in this market with a unique personality and tone-of-voice.
With a name and purpose already created, the team engaged us to create an identity for the brand, with full brand rollout, including packaging, brand language and tone-of-voice.
The client required a very flexible packaging system. The range of products and pack formats requires a design livery that can be adjusted depending on front pack shape and size, while still be recognisable as a family and standout on the shelf. What began as one coconut water pack design, has grown to a range with over 10 different products and upwards of 25 different flavours.
Design Specifics: Logo and identity design, tone-of-voice, packaging design, corporate communication, brand guidelines, Illustration, social media asset creation.
The need for some strategic thinking to reflect the businesses’ new opportunities and aspirations was also a chance to check where GoodnessMe could ‘fill the gaps in the snack food market’.
With a successful and established product already on shelves, we worked together with the client and discovered that at the heart of it the team just ‘love good food’. The resulting custom identity allowed for a fun approach to packaging and communication material that not only puts a smile on your dial, but has helped invigorate the team and increase sales.
An exciting client to work with, I had the chance to work on everything from logo and identity design, packaging, art working, styling and art directing various photo shoots. I also designed and built their new website, while helping them establish a strong social media presence.
Design Specifics: Logo and identity design, packaging design, art direction and food styling.
Putting the 'all' in Glenfield Mall provided a vibrant identity, design system and locally focussed storytelling for a previously generic retail site. This helped establish a contemporary and fresh direction that connected to its location, community and history as a gathering place.
The system was rolled out across exterior, interior, promotional and digital branding, all of which I had the opportunity to work on. I have created a vast number of creative outputs for the brand and have worked directly with their marking manager in doing so.
Design specifics: Identity design, brand language, promotional material, digital branding, interior and exterior signage, way-finding.
Gift Station offers a world of choice and liberates the pressure of gift giving. Their thoughtful selection of gift cards make for a gift that is as good to give as they are to receive. Available for purchase online as well as in popular retail outlets nationwide, Gift Station offers a world of gift giving possibilities – providing gift options that are satisfyingly stress free.
We had the task of creating a bold and robust brand system that would work alongside the busy environments it lives in. From gas station tills and supermarket checkouts, to the screen of a eftpos machine in your local dairy.
The client also wanted a system that could work with found imagery and be a stand on the shelf even when no imagery was available. We also created a unique set of icons which we use to add personalty, joy, colour and brand recognition to our communications.
Design Specifics: Identity and logo design, display stands, corporate communication, signage, poster design.
Puhinui Park is the first residential stage in the establishment of a truly connected neighbourhood in the heart of Manukau.
This connected community is reflected in a connected identity. Working closely with the New Zealand Housing Foundation I was able to help develop positioning language and graphic assets for a new development with outstanding transport links and surrounding facilities for first time buyers and young families.
Along with crafting the logo and identity system I also designed many touchpoints for the brand including website design, stationary, billboards and sales brochures.
Design specifics: Logo and identity design, website design, stationary, brochures, signage.
